Windy Windy So Strong She Wrote It Twice
It is a very very windy windy day today!
I don't know how else to emphasize the strength of the wind other than to write it two times...
'New York new York' so good they named it twice'
Windy windy - so strong she wrote it twice!
It was so windy that I was jogging up from the beach, doing my thing, when Anadi appeared running down the hill, he had headed up ten minutes earlier... 'the wind is so strong I nearly got blown over the edge' he called above the whistling gusting sound...
'Don't' I replied 'good advice' he laughed as he ran up the hill in the other direction' I was not entirely sure of his logic as the wind was all around us!
Swirling and whirling and the waves were crashing and spraying as I had run along to the end of the stony beach a few minutes earlier...
It had taken me five minutes to run down the winding road and I had jogged it without any breaks, Achilles felt strong and willing and so I carried on along the beach (wind assisted!) for 5 more minutes.
At one point a big wave had nearly caught me... as I dodged it, the dream I had last night came back to me...
In my dream I was standing talking with someone, I think Anadi, but energetically it wasn't him... I was looking over to where I saw people swimming in a very choppy sea; the light had that dim essence to it, but I was dreaming in colour because I noticed the different blues of the water.
It looked fun in the sea and I wanted to be there too, experiencing the waves, and the next thing, in true dream fashion, I was in the water too.
Suddenly an enormous wave was swelling and growing, I turned and saw it coming towards me; I centred myself to go with it and it went straight over me, I remember seeing the water but I was untouched, it hit the shore and I saw a swirl of water coming backwards towards me and, I braced myself again to be ready for the swirl! Nothing happened, I was untouched by the surging waters all about me... And then I woke up...!
As I ran along the beach and the extra big wave nearly 'got me' , I remembered my dream...
I walked back into the wind and decided to run uphill and see if Achilles was okay with that!
This was the point at which Anadi appeared and disappeared over the hills again...
I ran up the grass and along a little gravel path; it took 40 seconds and my ankle was happy, and so I jog walked down and did it again, and again and again, until I had completed ten...
'Easy, Light, Smooth, Fast' I recited, the mantra I have adopted from 'born to run' ...
I love this quote from Caballo Blanco
'Think Easy, Light, Smooth, and Fast. You start with easy, because if that’s all you get, that’s not so bad. Then work on light. Make it effortless, like you don’t give a shit how high the hill is or how far you’ve got to go. When you’ve practiced that so long that you forget you’re practicing, you work on making it smooooooth. You won’t have to worry about the last one – you get those three, and you’ll be fast.”
And all was well with Achilles. We ran up and down and made it effortless...
I did start to feel tired though :)
When my hill runs were complete I walked up up up to the very top of the hill. The views were stunning, blue grey green and grey, miles and miles of the Jurassic Coast stretching out before me, three walkers slipping their way down the hill across from me, one fell and was just caught by the other...
A woman running with her Labrador above me, no one else about...
I did my drills on the path at the top of the hill, my legs and ankles and knees all feel stronger, all happy to hop and bound and jump, sideways backwards forwards, walking lunges.. I felt agile and free...
Last night we went to watch my (nearly 18 year old) nephew Jamie, who is an acrobatic gymnast, do his practice run through with his fellow competitors for a competition this coming weekend.
It was fabulous to watch, amazing agility, flexibility and strength and muscular endurance. Incredible grace.
I was inspired to get more and more supple and agile again !!
It inspired my drills and my stretching today, extra attention to holding that stretch, landing lightly, focusing on easy, light, smooth... the fast will come...
At the beginning of the show I kept being moved to tears, the commitment to excellence and the striving to be all they can be touched something within me, something I recognise, and of course heralding still unfinished business within my own soul...
After my drills I jogged back down the hill and up the lane home to Honeysuckle cottage 55 minutes from when I left!
