A Big Shout Out For Tim...
I'd like to start today by giving a big shout out for Tim...
Tim came out to the Alpujarras in Spain this July... He spent time with me exploring and reflecting and running...!
We did lots of running together in those magnificent, awesome mountains...
Love of sport has always been at the very core of Tim's being, a part of his essential expression...
At the beginning of this year he started to run more than before, and he hasn't stopped...
He has been learning more about himself in the running step... And he has embraced everything that has been kicked up the earth beneath his feet... Everything that has arisen in front of him, he has been willing to investigate as he journeys on his running path,
Tim is in training for the Beachy Head Marathon, which is an off road marathon on the South Downs in the UK. The last six miles of the race take in 'The Seven Sisters"; a range of 'hills' which need to be 'run' to be understood...!
So last Sunday as part of his build up to the race, Tim competed in the Firle off road half Marathon...
He had a great run...
He finished 15th in a field of 164... There was a problem with the race course and the field ended up running 12 miles instead of 13.... But Tim's converted time from the 1.28.59 he recorded for 12 miles, would have brought him home around his predicted time of 1.35...
And.... He finished first in his age category (over 45) out of 18 people...
Excellent running Tim...
Stretching for goals and outcomes is always fun... 'I wonder if I can...?' The journey to see 'if we can' accesses all manner of fears and inner drives, as well as discovering latent talent, developing new skills and finding inner strengths we didn't know we had....
Stretching to new horizons is part of what makes us feel alive and free.... The limitation can be in becoming attached to what we are striving for...
Stretching is great... Setting the peak of the mountain as a destination, and then letting go and simply taking the steps, one after the other....
When I raced in Switzerland in the 80's, I learnt to always respect the majesty and power of the mountains. The air was thin making it nearly impossible to 'race'.
I discovered that it was up to me to adapt to the mountains and then it appeared that they accepted my presence on them...
It always seemed to me that they ask that I let go of trying, and simply surrender into putting one foot in front of the other.
I remember reading Bear Grylls account of climbing Everest; he said that, when climbing he learnt it was vital to keep moving and continue taking small steps. This is a lesson we could all learn, whatever challenge we are facing.
Being in the mountains always extinguished my ego and it is where I started to learn to let go of attachment to outcome...
Achieving a certain time and distance became less important.
The main attraction and joy of running for me has always been to experience the chance to be free and truly embrace the space where we can reveal ourselves and join together in our own individual quests....
Later....
We have spent the day in our 'Lagoon' office again... Lucia suggested that a photo was taken of me working there today...!
