Travellers Meeting At A Crossroads
We are at Athens airport, it feels like nomansland, but we have all we need; Internet, nice food and good coffee in the Gourmand cafe and a space to work and chat to one another.
Our daily rhythm is essentially the same wherever we are... We work and run and eat and spend time together... Whether that be in Athens airport, an island in Thailand with the sea lapping below us; or in Corfu with the rain beating down outside our cosy appartment, no 11 Stefanos Place.
The essential orientation which we both share is that we are endeavouring to be still in every moment.
We were exploring this yesterday with Nikoll my new yoga teacher. She had sat down with us and started to talk about her interest in relationships and the heart and love. She looked at us and said 'You have a good relationship - I see the love in your eyes'. We carried on chatting together and then she asked me what I believed was the secret to really good relating... 'To always work on ourselves' I smiled.
'Ahh, so it is about yourself' and she touched her heart; 'about working on yourself' she repeated. 'Yes' I replied 'it is the only way to truly relate, from a clear space within ourselves'.
I have spent my life exploring how to be still, and how to go deeper in relationship with myself, through seeing myself reflected back in the magnifying glass of being in committed relationships for most of my adult life... With occasional gaps where I was single!
And for the three years before I met Anadi I had been exploring being in less committed relationships but with the same orientation of self inquiry...
Anadi has spent his life exploring the same thing, but in the main keeping away from committed relationships as he found he could work more deeply on himself through his own daily practices; and through travelling to India to spend hours and days meditating and deepening his commitment to the path of consciousness...
In fact on reflection, Anadi has spent about the same time in committed relationships as I have spent out of them! And so it was that we met one another... Both travellers on the same path who had taken different routes, eventually met at a cross roads and have carried on side by side...
Later
We are now on the plane to Heathrow.
I have just been brought a fruit meal... Amy has kept me very healthy in the last two months since we left the UK for Thailand - I have been brought the fruit platter on nearly every flight.
I have a memory of she and I sitting working out plans and her saying 'Ooh - there is a fruit option on the flights, shall I tick that' and me, not really knowing what I might want to eat on future plane rides, saying 'yes'... I feel Amy's presence each time the flight attendant appears with my special fruit platter ahead of everyone else's meal... She didn't tick the 'yes' to fruit box for Anadi, which he is somewhat relieved about...!
Anadi is reading a nearly finished copy of my new book 'A girlfriend for a year' which charts our love affair and how we have arrived in our nomadic marriage of souls. He has just been laughing out loud, I asked him what he is laughing about... 'Me asking you if bulls are dangerous when we were running through Santorini - and "shenanigans" on the beach...!' He replied. He says he has found the book 'gripping ' - even though he already knows the story and has a starring role!
Later still
We are at a Heathrow hotel; we have eaten a 'Vitality salad' and established where the gym is for the morning... Our exercise today has consisted of a lot of walking down very long corridors in the airports!
They did actually look long enough to do interval training along... But I decided to wait for the morning and the treadmill on floor -1
