A Member Of Three Gyms...
As we walked through ‘nothing to declare’ yesterday afternoon, and out into the activity of cars, buses, taxis and a throng of folk collecting other folk, we saw our friend Augustin striding towards us... We were so happy to be re united with him and to see again his little girl Aisha and meet his girlfriend Rosie…
He drove us the winding route to Gros Islet and we were home… We were warmly greeted by Janet and Castro, and after a quick unpack - it doesn’t take long now - we wandered into the village with the sun setting.
It was like there had been no other life; time seems to have lost any meaning since we became nomads. It could be a millisecond or lifetimes blending into each other between the last time we were here and now…
Today...
At the end of day one on our island in the sun, it appears I have joined three fitness centres…
We woke early, and I was aware of a sadness within me that felt to do with being so far away from beautiful frosty England!
This is not uncommon for me; to feel a bit wrenched from one place to the next… I am familiar with the feelings now, and understand it is part of my letting go.
The movement to a new place, with all its time travel, climate change and loss of sleep, can sometimes access vulnerability and fear within me… It can feel uncomfortable, but I welcome it, so that I can go into the feelings... I know that I will feel lighter, freer and clearer the other side of the process…
As Anadi and I lay in bed chatting, with the cockerel crowing outside, I was telling him how I felt... Then I said ‘But it will go; it always does doesn’t it...’? ‘Yes’, he acknowledged, ‘And; we are still in the very early stages of this new lifestyle, we can think of this year as an experiment…’
A little later on…
We jogged down the road to Rodney Bay in search of ‘Gros Islet fitness Centre’ – Amy has been in touch with Mac, who runs the Centre and he was expecting us… it looked from the map that this was the way to go… it turned out it wasn’t!
However, on our reccy we met Rodriguez Constantine… He runs a personal training gym, and I am going tomorrow morning at 9am for my ‘trial session’ with a view to booking up for a block!
He also told us there is a 5k run on Feb 23rd at 5.30am, with a street party afterwards... The date is in the diary now…!
As we jogged back in search of a coffee, I noticed that I was already adjusting to my new land...
Just as we approached the marina and our favourite coffee house, which we discovered last year ‘Ole’ – we saw another fitness Centre. We crossed the road, following the arrows to the centre, climbed some stairs and found ourselves in an attractive and welcoming open-plan gym and studio... I am now booked up for Friday morning yoga sessions there…!
Later still…
At 5.45pm as the sun was dropping from the sky we went for another run in search again of the illusive 'Gros Islet fitness centre' We now had directions from Rodrigeuz “Rodja’ and this time found it with ease…
It is just at the end of our village; a five to ten minute run from our home.
Mac was there and we said who we were and that Amy had been in touch with him… 'Ah yes Amy’ he laughed ‘She has told me all about you…’.
We signed up...
And this is the story of how I am now a member of three gyms in Gros Islet at the end of day one…
We left the gym and dropped down to the beach which was full of friendly dogs; before running the rest of our circuit back to our pink home.
