Build A Firm Foundation
Rodja, my new Personal Trainer, has a shorter version of the quote I wrote about commitment in yesterday's blog
His version is this …'Until one commits - it's all talk'!
And that is the truth of it 'in action there is magic' or else it is simply day dreaming, which is a fun and delightful thing to do; but transforming our day dreams, our life dreams into reality takes action…
Which I have certainly been engaged in this morning!
I am sitting in cafe Ole post workout - my bid for a protein smoothie has been thwarted by a power cut, but I have a mixed berry and banana parfait with Greek yoghurt on its way instead...
At the end of my session with Rodja I affirmed again that I was glad I had crossed the bridge to this new land; and he was saying that he believes we meet people for a reason; how big a part we are to play in one another’s life is only revealed over time...
He reckons that people often don’t allow the time to see what will be revealed…
I trained with him today in a way I haven't since I was in my twenties…
I am so grateful to Matt my PT in the UK who rehabilitated me from my knee injury that I sustained nearly four years ago, so that I am now in a position to really ‘go for it’ with my strength and conditioning…
My body appreciated today how much Matt’s training has prepared me for Rodja’s workouts –and I loved performing dead lifts and power cleans and then running on the treadmill!
I also fully hear and acknowledge Greg – of Optimum Muscles Care - Greg treated my recent Achilles injury which I sustained in September. He counselled me to come back to running ‘slowly slowly…’ he described the Achilles injury as a re building injury because it is necessary to go back to basics in the healing stages, so as to emerge really ready to train…
This is true of everything we embark on; there are no short cuts. a firm foundation needs to be built or else even if 'the house' goes up quickly and looks okay; there will surely be evidence of the missed stages down the road...
I came away from my marathon in June 2011 believing I could get faster – the run had ranked me the third fastest over 50 year old in the UK that year - and instead of getting faster I got injured…
On reflection my spirit took a knock… I had set conditions in place for the marathon back then - and in truth it's taken me all this time, at the deepest level, to fully recover, to really investigate and heal more fully the pattern that has often meant set backs in my sport, and to acknowledge that I must fully balance and strengthen my weaker left leg, as well as delve into and untie the emotional knots that are holding me…And so take the leap into full training…
Running has been one of the main areas of creative expression throughout my life, and I have noticed that if we deeply explore the patterns and 'hold ups', the challenges and imbalances in an area where we are most keen to express ourselves, we will often find answers to everything else...
Later…
I wandered into the village to go to the shop up the road for some food and to collect our laundry; a guy called out across the street ‘what is the matter with your legs’.. I was walking a bit stiffly having been sitting down since I had returned from training!
He ran across the road to me and I told him I had done a hard work out this morning…
‘You need to stretch out’ he said ‘Stretch out the muscles, I used to train a lot, and I know this, stretch and it will ease...’
“Yes' I agreed 'I will stretch later' I said ‘I am getting used to training again...’
‘You are a beautiful lady and you are still very young’ he said… I smiled and said ‘Thank you’, and that I had better get on to the shop - I wasn’t sure if the young bit was an ‘extra special’ chat up… !
But I liked him, and I like living in Gros Islet…
