There May Be More To See...
We sat on the steps in the middle of the Portugos as the church clock struck ten o clock...
An old man with a stick walked by and smiled, 'Ola' I said... He smiled more and looked at us quizzically... 'We have come from Bubion' I said and gestured an up and down movement with my hand... Ahhh, he nodded enthusiastically and smiled some more; he understood...
We had left our village at 8am and made our way across the mountain, while the sun swooped its way up into the sky and filtered its light through the pine trees onto the sandy path we all trod...
As before the conversation meandered and moved from one topic to another...
'I was at school with Derren Brown' Tim said, 'he was in my sister's year...'.
We had been talking about only seeing what we could see, and being blind to what we could not, even if it was right in front of us... Anadi had told a story to demonstrate this, which was similar to when I saw Derren Brown in Eastbourne... Derren had encouraged us to concentrate on a ping pong match - I think that was it - and we didn't see the man in a gorilla suit walk across the back of the stage....
We cannot see what we cannot see...
However, it is the willingness to open our eyes that makes the difference; the willingness to accept there may be more to see than we are seeing...
When Christopher Columbus with his many ships, was sailing onto the shores of America, the natives of the land could not see the ships... They had never seen anything like this before; but once one person saw the strange things on the sea, they all saw them...
Where are we not seeing because we do not know there is anything to see?
Within ourselves... In our lives, within the words others are speaking? What is being said that we cannot hear or see, because we have not seen or heard it before...?
We talked about staying connected to one another, really being present with each other; and being open to seeing and hearing new ideas, being open to different ways of seeing things, being open to seeing what we never have before...
But the disconnect happened when we were little, when parents with the best will in the world were not 'with us'... And so we lost that connection with ourself and the ability to truly notice because we adapted to the disconnect...
I told Anadi and Tim a story of when I boarded a plane in America... A man ahead of me answered his phone and put it on speaker as he reached his seat... A little girl said 'Daddy I want to tell you about my swimming gala today...'
'Tell me all about it poppet' he replied, and then put his phone on the plane seat and proceeded to take off his jacket, and put his bag in the overhead locker while the little girl chatted on without pausing for breath... Every so often he would pick the phone up and say an encouraging word, and then continue to not really listen and do the things he needed to do....
These things affect us deeply as children and we don't even know, we don't see, and so a part of us closes down to seeing; until we are willing to open our eyes again....
The three of us sat eating crisps and drinking water and coca cola on the steps in Portugos, and we were visited by three little brown dogs, who shared our crisps...
Then Tim and I set off on our return journey... The sun was high in the sky now, and the path was steep...
No conversation could be heard for the first mile or so; the steepest section...
Anadi was our support vehicle...
Later, after we had enjoyed a big brunch in Teide, Anadi said to me 'I have really enjoyed this morning'
'I have too' I replied, 'it really has been fun...'
About three miles from home we had met some donkeys on the path... They were very friendly donkeys and we stopped to stroke them...
This is the animal totem for the donkey....
Donkey is symbolic of versatility, intelligence, eager worker, determination, stubbornness, spiritual dedication, undying faith in the creative force, willingness to take onboard the responsibilities and burdens of others.
A donkey is an indefatigable worker and personifies the qualities of determination and service to others, with a deep dedication to the universe/All That Is.
Donkey's ears can pick up sound a long way off. They know the messages held within each sound, showing us how to listen and awaken our clairvoyant abilities.
You are being asked to awaken, develop or utilise your own latent, inherent abilities in one or more aspects of your life.
