Rambla Bay Today
Mario, son of Sam, who is brother of Tony, (Tony runs Gleneagles bar and remembers Anadi as a five year old) suggested we go to 'Ta Frenc' for Anadi's birthday meal... 'It is the best restaurant on the island' he said, 'let them know that it is I who sent you...'
And so yesterday evening, we 'caught a taxi' to the restaurant which is hidden away down a little lane... We stepped out of the car into an idyllic setting, the building was calm and inviting, made of beautiful cool grey stone...
We walked along a verdant path full of plants and flowers, lit with gentle lights and were warmly welcomed into the restaurant...
I announced it was Anadi's birthday; 'we are the restaurant for special occasions', the lady who greeted us assured; we ordered our drinks, and said to our waiter that Mario had sent us...
Frederico, we discovered his name, was delighted 'he is my very good friend 'he said ' he is a very, very nice man'
We agreed, Mario is a very nice man....
The evening passed in a flash... When we left two hours later, we both said that it felt like two minutes...
A magical fairy tale environment, where we were looked after deliciously and delightfully...
We were given an experience fitting to celebrate Anadi being born...
He is a truly beautiful soul, and the occasion admirably honoured another year of appreciating his very special energy in this world...
And to make it even more fun and fitting - cocktails were part of it!
I woke to another beautiful blue skied sunny day...
Anadi was sleeping soundly... I rose and dressed and was ready to run...
Anadi appeared sleepily just as I was about to head off, for who knows where!
I was glancing at the map when he came into the main room...
'It's a very tiny this island' I said 'everything is very nearby so I shouldn't get lost... Rambla is in that direction isn't it'? And I pointed randomly...
Anadi affirmed it was... And so I headed off in a different direction...!
He had come down with me to establish a 'key hiding place' as we have only one set of keys...
'Oh, he said 'you're going that way...'
'I'm going to explore' I laughed and ran off up the road....
I had an idea that I would find my way to somewhere and hopefully back again...
I ran through beautiful sandy, stone villages, with tall churches and statues in porches... Folk sitting outside, chatting and being...
They greeted me as I ran by...
I rather regretted setting off without my phone / camera, and then consoled myself with the fact we have a lot of time here to take more photos ...
A sign post for Rambla..!
And so, I followed the signposts and soon reached the top of a very long hill...
I could see the sandy bay of Rambla below me...
I hesitated for a moment, what goes down must come up!
But the rolling waves and the soft sand called to me, and so I followed...
I arrived to a holiday scene... The Gozo sightseeing bus had just arrived, and folk were bundling out with bags and sun brollies... On the beach families played, and bathed and lay still in the sun...
On the sandy edge of the bay, a big restaurant was situated, with lots of tables on decking...
This bay asked that we all spend the day and appreciate all it has to offer...
Another time....
Today I turned for home, and ran back up the steep hill I had run down...
I found a new route home, and arrived back having travelled from one side of the island to the other, it felt like a big journey...
But I had covered just 8 miles!
