Shine Our Light
'Where do you all live in the UK', the young 'green team' man enquired of Anadi and I, and another couple as we stood at the end of the 5k race chatting together...
The 'green team' are the instructors, and organisers, of all the events that occur every single day here at Club la Santa...
The organisation is exemplary, the programme very comprehensive...
It would be possible to spend all day exercising for sure...!
I don't take part in the programme... I just love being in an environment where I can do my own training in the sun, with a track, a gym and treatments all nearby...
And the weekly 5k, like our park runs in the UK, is working very well for me.
Gunter, the osteopath did tell me however that there is a high heart attack rate - on average, twenty per year, he said - and a high death rate, 'for a hotel' - an average of four a year...
'People come and over do it, he said... 'We have resuscitation machines everywhere, so immediate attention is available...'
Our human journey is so fragile, transient... One minute here, the next gone.
I have adhered to the Buddhist philosophy for some time now, in terms of ensuring that we are fully here, living now... They have an imaginary bird on their shoulder, which they ask...
'Is this my moment, is this my death, am I ready...?'
Being ready for our death, means that we live fully, every moment we are alive...
As we are only too aware... There are horrific and sudden deaths being reported all over the world...
Creating massive shock waves all across the globe..
War torn nations, people needing to escape their own countries, acts of terrorism and immense violence...
And what can we do?
In the face of pain and hatred and utter despair...
How can we be of service?
We can hold the light, we can make the darkness light, by clearing our own pain and despair; by clearing our own hatred and anger...
All of the darkness within our own being, we can keep clearing...
So that we are light in the dark...
And in clearing our pain, and letting go of fear, we commit to love....
'perfect love casteth out fear' and without fear, we are more prepared for our own death, moment by moment....
This is how we fully choose life....
And so back to the end of the race...
My orange shorts were much admired by my fellow racers...
The couple we stood chatting with after the race, Gary and Anita, affirmed that orange racing shorts are the way to go...
'They suit you' Anita said... 'You should always wear them', echoed a young woman from Copenhagen.
'I could see them out of the corner of my eye' Gary said
'I knew you were coming...'
I had followed Gary most of the race, and towards the end he inspired me to hold onto my pace....
Once again, I don't yet have the official results, but I definitely ran quicker than last week...
15 - 20 seconds I reckon... And I felt much better running, not quite so much flailing around in a sea of lactic shock... More composed...!
'We live in Kingston' Gary and Anita responded to our 'race organiser'... 'And we live here' we volunteered.. 'For now...'
