There Is No Rush...
I had a smooth journey back to London.
There wasn’t much traffic and I could whizz along in the dark, with the rain swishing about and spraying up from lorries; we were all moving, twinkling lights and shiny black roads to the sound and rhythm of the windscreen wipers…
Driving along, free as a bird, I could be anywhere...
I couldn't actually find my way home though once I came off at Junction 26...
After heading towards Harlow twice I decided my best bet was to go back to junction 25 as I know my way to where Anadi lived in Enfield.
I used to drive to visit him there when we first met - if I could get there - then I knew I would be about two miles away from where we are staying now...
This plan worked perfectly and I even found the right road out of Enfield after a couple of circuits of the town...
I have subsequently decided that I am going to 'join in' and get google maps sorted out on my iphone....
Last night was resonant of the nineties when I worked in the corporate world as a mentor and coach. This involved a lot of driving about and finding places...
Not being great with maps... I used to rely on leaving a lot of time, and signposts and have an idea before I left of the motorways I needed to be on…
This method worked well and I arrived at all my destinations.
I do remember one occasion when I was trying to find Bass Brewers in Cardiff where I was going to spend a week working one to one with all the managers...
Could I find the place?!
Round and round I drove...
Eventually I called my colleague in Sussex, getting slightly desperate by this stage!
These people were hoping for me to guide them in their lives and I could not find my way to them!
Ian, my colleague in Sussex, looked at a map and talked me in... I arrived in the nick of time...
Six years ago my friends Rob, Jim, Stu and I were training to run the inaugural X country race from London to Brighton - we needed to map read - I didn't learn how to!
I ran miles and miles and miles in preparation, but didn't pick up a map...!
Everything looks upside down to me.
I think this might be one of my gifts when in working in people's lives, but it isn't that helpful when trying to read a map!
I relied on Jim in the race, and so we both got lost together!
But we found our way again and so it was all okay in the end...
I have always had an orientation of life as an adventure, of the ordinary being extraordinary, of everyday having something amazing to offer, even if it is in the middle of tragedy or loss or desperate ness...
The watcher within me has always been present for me, and so this has helped me .
It has also helped me to help others who are 'in' it fully and cannot at the time see within or light outside..
It's maybe why I am suited to change and enjoy travelling light; as I am doing now with Anadi travelling by my side
Today I walked back to my gym; Achilles felt a bit tight and stiff and so I chose not to run, and instead carried out my kettle bell circuit and then climbed onto the stationary bike and after warming up, alternated fast and easy minute intervals - which turned out to be a bit of a shock to the system - even though I only did eight...!
I also had a wonderful sports massage with Danny and my legs and ankle feel great now.
Danny said that in his experience he sees that micro movements and poor posture cause the most tightness in muscles, so driving for six hours in two days, tightened my right calf somewhat and affected my Achilles…
But my friend Greg, who was treating me when I was in Sussex had re assured me that my Achilles will do this up and down thing as it heals; and that the process to full recovery may take another four months; that is okay... It is re teaching me to listen more deeply and to allow.
There is no rush...
Things of the spirit happen in their own time and I must remember that this process isn't about running, the running is the process taking me to a new land.
