Moment By Moment
We were a little surprised to find the centre of San Sebastián quite busy today...
'I suppose it is the Saturday before Christmas' I said to Anadi, after we had given up trying to find anywhere to eat lunch and made our way back to the seafront...
We returned to the restaurant looking out over the bay, which we had eaten in after the 10k race, and we sat in the sun, eating gloriously drenched garlic and oil tomato and serano ham tostado...
Earlier on our way into the City centre, we had watched three swimmers swim the length of the bay, we were transfixed by their progress....
And eventually saw them wade out of the sea to the shore and walk up the beach, having an air of familiarity about their activity, as if their daily exercise was complete...
There is not much sign of Christmas here, extra business in the wine bars being the main evidence that it is approaching...!
There is the odd sparkly tasteful tree and a few lights hanging...
But it would be easy to miss it was happening...
I like an understated Christmas, but that said, I had a little bit of a Christmas shopping spree - for me...!
It didn't take long.
We met nice people in the two shops... I tried on a lovely red jumper as a Christmas present from Anadi...
'It looks lovely...' Anadi said - and then a man standing nearby, who was waiting for his wife affirmed this, 'the colour suits your skin' he said, and then 'you have a lovely smile', turning to Anadi, he continued' you both have lovely smiles, you are good people'
'Thank you' I said...
Anadi bought me the jumper, and a bag too...
And then we continued on... I saw some little boots in a shop...
The woman serving us engaged us in conversation 'you are from England?' We explained our circumstances...
'Ah' she understood 'you are citizens of the world...'
'I like that' I laughed 'yes, we are citizens of the world...'
This morning we had our last desayuno in our cafe... We wrote our thanks and goodbyes to Vanessa, in 'google translate', she has served us every day....
And now we may not ever see her again...
I then went to run some short intervals on the treadmill...
I feel much improved since I have been here, but until I race again, until I am on the line, I won't truly know...
'You are only as good as your last race!'
I have loved having a treadmill to train on again and as I wandered back to the hotel, I mused that treadmill training and protein recovery drink are two very helpful training aids for me!
And tomorrow we fly again into a new reality....
A new moment by moment unfolding of our days...
As we sat lunching earlier we agreed, that our lifestyle has a way of throwing us completely into the moment...
Moment by moment.
