'On Vacation...'
We - Malcolm of 'Running Crazy', Anadi, Katie and I - are just back from a run around and about Palma, on the beautiful island of Mallorca...
On Sunday we are running a 10k, and 'pre run' today, as the four of us were sitting chatting, Malcolm asked if we had read the welcome email about the race...
This is what it says at the bottom
'All this program is intended for you to reach the start line, wholeheartedly, the next day. Since then, the responsibility to enjoy what you’ve been hardly training for, is all yours'.
The smallest difference in the use of words and a whole different meaning... This is true of life, something we say, might be heard as something completely different, and the whole conversation has another meaning, which can take our life in a totally new direction... Our own words and those that others utter can empower us or trap us...
This statement at the bottom of the email made us all laugh, and we agreed that may be we had 'hardly been training for the race' rather than 'training hard for it'...!
But we are here in Mallorca for three weeks, and so now I have every opportunity to 'train hard', and Anadi who has a deadline with imedialibrarysports says that he will use it as an opportunity to 'hardly train'...
The sun is shining now, but when we met at 4.30pm for our 'introductory easy run', the heavens opened!
So we sat chatting for an hour until it cleared up...
Then we set off down the hill and met Tony, Katie's partner, running back up the hill; he had set off for two hours twenty minutes earlier... And was soaked to the skin!
I have spent the last month in the UK and ran every day... I didn't get rained on once ...!
We had a very lovely time in England... We have established that I am more an England person than Anadi... It is still my favourite country, although I do like taking off to the sun at regular intervals!
Anadi is more of a 'Mediterranean man'... And is glad to head out to the sun and the sea...
'What happened to following the sun woman?' He often laughingly asks me when we are in cooler climes!
For the last week we have been in Eastbourne, and I was able to see my clients and run some miles on the downs, in the bright spring sun that graced most days...
We stayed at Ravilious, which we totally love... It is our home in Eastbourne! David the manager looks after us so well...
He keeps Anadi supplied with tea and biscuits all day long, and makes fresh coffee for me and my clients...!
One day I emerged from 'my room' and Farakh who owns Ravilious and Anadi were sitting chatting... Farakh is a fabulous designer... This is evident when you take a look around the house...
They had been catching up earlier in the week, Anadi has been revamped the website and was showing his work to Farack, who made the observation that maybe the logo needed polishing to match the new look...
He had then gone away and done it himself... He came back to Anadi with an almost perfect finished design...
I found the two of them sitting there together creating the new look....
The power of collaboration...
Later...
A delicious meal with our friends...
Katie, Tony, Malcolm - and Francis, who arrived from Manchester this morning...
He can't come running with us as he is recovering from an operation on his foot, but he can eat with us and drink in the bar, and so in the evening we are the running group who aren't running...
We laughed a lot, and ate delicious food...
Everyone adjourned to the bar, except for Anadi and I - we have already become known as the workaholics - who have adjourned to our 'office' on the ninth floor...
As we left the group, I reflected that travelling nomads and workaholics seem to me to have something of an air an oxymoron about them...!
But that is only because wherever we go, it is assumed we are 'on vacation'....
