A Gym Girl...
Another day in our oasis... We slept well and walked to the beach to start the day with a swim...
Because the sea is a wild sea, flags were flying and it was strongly suggested we stay enclosed in what was like a big big sea swimming pool, marked out with buoys...
Anadi and I both commented that for our spirits it was liking laying down the gauntlet; the children in us, were under that 'fence' and swimming out to sea to play as fast as the restrictions had been set....
But the wiser aspect understood the wisdom of the 'fenced in' section...
I remember learning about how for the rules to be made in any group, the higher the self esteem of all concerned, the easier it is to set the boundaries and the guidelines for the group to function at its best.
I come from the era of being told that things were such a way 'because I say so...'
'So what...!'
And things were going to happen in a certain way... 'Just because...'
'But why...?'
I do understand the challenges of children with their own agenda, that seems totally the opposite to that of a parent! I also recognise that I was that child, and had I been born later I quite likely have been labeled with ADHD..!
As it was - my label was 'naughty'!
I have learnt as the years have gone by that how we say things to people is integral to what we say, and can help with their sense of worth and self esteem; and that the response to our communication is the meaning of our communication...
So this means that if a child is wild, and does the opposite to what you ask; it is worth reflecting within ourselves as what is going on with ourselves, as the child is always going to be some reflection of the adult...
As we grow of course we become responsible for our own inner child...!
Anadi and I stayed within the boundaries of the sea pool and enjoyed a brilliant swim...!
We then walked again along our glorious beach... We are right slap bang by the airport, we chose this hotel on purpose as we are flying to Koh Samui tomorrow.
It is certainly an awesome site watching the planes land as we walked...
They appear to be going to land on the beach!!
Later
I have just come back from a very short trip to the gym... I love the spaciousness of this gym; I am very much a gym person...!
I have been in gyms since I was fifteen years old, back then I started out training in a garage with men and I was the only girl...
We trained with free weights only and it was an amazing training ground for me to really learn how to strengthen and condition my body, I also had no limits as training with the guys meant I looked to what they were doing as my target...
My coach who owned the gym was at the cutting edge of the fitness industry, it was the mid seventies, and he designed a lot of the stations that meant weight training became accessible to many more people.
I remember going to a huge trade fair in a Cologne for three days when I was seventeen years old. My role was every day, for about ten - fifteen minutes, on the hour I demonstrated the new equipment and ran for a few minutes on a treadmill to draw the crowds.. In the evenings I was taken around the red light district by the two guys I was working with... and my eyes were well and truly opened..!
Through the eighties I owned my own gym... and now forty years on from when I lifted my first weight, I appreciate the amazing state of art equipment and amazing facilities that I can enjoy wherever I go...
I am certainly a gym girl!
