Journeying With Anadi James Taylor...
It was very quiet here at 8 o’clock this morning as I jumped down off the wall and onto the little beach fifty metres from our front door. All curtains were closed and not a soul was stirring...
I had decided to start the year with my little circuit which consists of lots of exercises and drills like press ups and burpees and high knee lifts; bounding, sideways and backwards and bunny jumping… and hopping; lots of leaping about!
The Gardener here appeared at one point and stopped wheeling his barrow, and stood watching me, I waved and he waved back and then he stayed there awhile. There was a slight look of puzzlement on his face watching the leaping bikini clad western woman...
I loved doing this on the sand, it was a bit hard at times when the sea came rolling in mid plank and the ground disappeared beneath me, sinking sand! But it was fun and I was soon got very hot and sweaty. A finale of lying on my back in the sea, relaxing and floating in the corpse position, like at the end of a yoga class was total perfection for a cool down...
Anadi and I went to breakfast, and found Pete was already there, despite his 5am bedtime. He showed us pictures of crowds of people and bright lights, and recounted his evening. I have nominated him as my ‘in loco partyentis’ person...
He said there were twenty thousand folk on the beach, that it was very loud and a lot of alcohol was being consumed, with the results you might expect...
I was glad that we had in the end decided on a party of two instead, and that we had stayed here and sat in the beach wall, the same wall that I had jumped off this morning to go and exercise on he beach…
At midnight fireworks were exploding in a mass of sparkly reds and greens and blues all over the island, and on Koh Samui just across the water; Chinese lanterns floated brightly by. It was by these lights in the sky all around us that Anadi and I witnessed the start of another year....
Just two years ago we had met just three weeks earlier, and we had seen the new Year in apart, me in Barcelona where I was spending New Year with my friend Athena Jane.. And Anadi in London
Jane and I have travelled to many places together, for me to run a race, and her not to! :) Two years ago it was the New Years Eve Barcelona 10k to which we had journeyed. The race took place at 5pm and I raced around the beautiful City with crowds of others, happier in that type of crowd than a party crowd!
The sun set on the old year as we ran...
Jane and I saw the new year in by eating twelve grapes on the chime of midnight at the end of a delicious five course meal, one hour before the UK saw 2013 arrive....
As Big Ben chimed midnight, Jane spoke to her new love and me to mine!
Even though as yet we had only met twice and only for a short time, Anadi and I both knew deep down that we were setting out on an adventure together....
And two years later we are sitting on a beach together with all we own in our little home behind us and the light in the sky reflecting the joyous colours in my being to be journeying with Anadi James Taylor by my side...
As the day wore on, people sleepily and slowly appeared to eat their breakfast or by now lunch, and life returned to Orchid resort....
We headed off barefoot to the beach later on in the afternoon, many more people than when we came last time were lying on the sand, recovering and soaking up the warmth and light of this magical New Year's Day ...
We ran and walked right to the end again and carried out, our outdoor line of gym stations!
We returned home and sat on our wall once again watching the sun set in glorious fashion on the first day of 2015....
